Time To Learn Responsibility

Chase and his "Save", "Spend and "Give" envelopes.
His Responsibility Board

Now that Chase is four, we decided it was time to teach him how to be responsible (both behavioral and financial). We purchased a Financial Peace Jr Kit from Dave Ramsey's site and also got a Melissa and Doug Responsibility Board. We put different responsibilities on his board and if he does 21 in a week, he gets $1.00. Then, we put "Commission" chores on his other board and he earns a $1.00 for each of those. This week was: "Feed Ozzie" and "Pick up Toys". He also has behaviors he can lose money with: whining, not going to bed when asked, etc. Those cost him .25 each. This week, he earned $2.50. He has to put at least .50 in his Give envelope and can split the rest up how he wants. We printed out a picture of the Thomas Train Bridge he wants to buy, so he is working towards that.

It has been working great. His behavior is improving, he is helping out much more and he is so proud when he gets his money!
